THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Picture
As #givingtuesday comes to a close, we just want to thank you for all of your generosity. It has been a long road to get to where we are today, but Marsha and I have learned to embrace the journey, no matter what it entails. That may be 1 am transports, dog wrangling in bushes on a 200 degree day, falling face first into holes while running after feral puppies, or sliding down muddy hills with no shoes on, but one thing is for certain, we couldn't have gotten here without YOU. You have allowed us to save thousands of lives, educate the public, and follow our dreams. You saved Cookie nka Stella pictured here. She spent months at our county shelter. She had become so depressed. We pulled her into our program, and she now lives a luxurious life in Wisconsin with her mama Lois. We get to see updates daily. So from the bottoms of our hearts, thank you!!
-Kara

I don’t think there are words sufficient enough to convey our heartfelt thanks. All those years ago when 2 girls from Oakman joined forces on the hottest day of the year to catch an ornery old stray dog, I never ever believed we would be where we are today. One dog saved turned into 2, then 10, then dozens, then hundreds, now thousands. At first it was just me and Kara...doing what we could, taking multiple leaps of faith to save these forgotten, unwanted souls. Then one by one, we discovered the most amazing group of people...fosters, volunteers, transporters, donors, rescue partners, FAMILY. I wish I had a dollar for every time one of us has uttered “we will figure it out” as we take in a dog with no plan...and we always do, with your support and love. You have made it possible for us to take in the worst of the worst, knowing somehow we would find a way to pay the bill and find a home. From our RUFF crew, thank you for loving these mangy, broken, skinny souls as we do.
-Marsha

Mac's Story

Mac has been adopted!!! He now has wheels!

Mac has been adopted by a wonderful woman in Wisconsin. He attends doggie daycare and has received a wheel chair that helps him to get around with ease. Happy tails, Mac :)

Update on sweet Mac...he went to a foster home today. He CAN walk but doesn't really want to...but heck, he's had multiple staff at his beck and call since he's been hurt lol. He's finally healthy enough to leave the clinic and get some intense one-on-one time with his foster family. His foster mom took one look at him today and fell in love. She reported later this evening that they took him outside and when he saw all the other dogs, he whined and wagged his tail and finally got up and walked a little for them. We think their dogs are going to be good for him because he wants to play with them. Thank you, Lord!!! We have all been holding our breath, praying he would be able to function with one front leg...stay tuned for more updates!!

WARNING: GRAPHIC PHOTOS!!!!
Walker County, AL: We were notified of a dog who had eaten his paw off on Thursday of last week. When I arrived, nothing could've prepared me. The dog had climbed under a building with may be a 2 ft gap to die. He was covered in ants. His breathing was shallow, and he was already turning cold. I crawled under and got the leash around his neck. I had no choice but to drag him out. I know it was excruciatingly painful. His back end got stuck, and I had to dig in the dirt for him to be able to fit out. I wrapped him in a blanket. When I tried to pick him up, he went beserk. I couldn't get him in the car. After over half an hour of struggles, we called a wonderful RUFF supporter, who I do not know if he wants to be named, to come and help me. Finally, we had to drag him into the crate. He has bone exposed with a fracture on one leg and the other needs removed as he literally ate his whole paw off. The stench was unbearable. We shot xrays, and they show us that he was shot in both legs. The vets are waiting to see if there is improvement over the next couple of days to see if we can get his fracture to heal before we amputate the other leg. He is on antibiotics, fluids, and pain meds, and is receiving the best possible care. He is soooo sweet. He has not made a peep and has let the doctors do everything they need to do without a hesitation. We, of course, are looking at hundreds of dollars, maybe thousands, to save him, but he deserves a chance. He is most definitely a fighter as he was knocking on death's door when he was found! If you would like to make a donation for his care, you can paypal us at RUFFrescue@yahoo.com or call our clinic at 205-221-4500 and say the donation is for RUFF's Mac. Keep the prayers coming that he can make a full recovery! As always, thanks so much for your support!

Rosie's Story

Update: Rosie has been adopted :)

Rosie spent most of her life on this short chain. When we found her she could not move as the chain was wrapped around the porch numerous times. She had no access to water and her uterus was hanging out. Rosie's past is behind her. She now lives inside with a full belly, a soft bed, and no worries. Without your support and donations, we couldn't help make these happy endings happen. This is just one success story of hundreds. Thanks Peggy and Sweet Paws!

Jenna's Story

Jenna was found on the side of 69 highway with her baby, Jolie who was adopted quickly. Jenna came in covered in mange, with contagious mouth warts, e-canis (a tick-borne illness), and heartworms. We took her in, healed her physically and mentally. She was with us for months upon months until one day something amazing happened. Someone was looking for a pitbull. It was not just someone but a wonderful woman who wanted to make a pitbull a part of her family. From the moment they met each other, something clicked. Jenna is a stocky girl so she looks intimidating, but she is one of the sweetest, most humble dogs I have ever come in contact with. She is good with kids and other animals. I remember one day I visited her foster mom, Alex Grace. I had been there for a good thirty minutes. I then asked, "Where's Jenna?". She said, "Oh she is in bed asleep." The dog is such a quite, gentle thing I did not even know she was there. The big home visit day rolled around, and we were all on pins and needles. We were so anxious because we wanted this to work so badly for Jenna. She deserved it after waiting for so long. The moment she walked into the house, we knew she was home. Marsha and I just looked at each other and nodded. We get updates from her mom all the time!!! I know that at least three or four people shed tears, tears of joy, on Jenna's adoption day. It was magical. If I never do another local adoption, this one was worth it!
