R.U.F.F. (Rescuers United for Furbabies) was formed by Marsha Miller and Kara Jones. These two ladies came together with one common goal. The team of R.U.F.F. has now grown into an amazing team of fosters, transporters, donors, and volunteers. Each and every person on our team is loved and appreciated more than one will ever know. We have welcomed a veterinarian to our board of directors as well. Dr. Martin Roberts is now our Vice-President. He has proven to be a wonderful asset to our team. The mission of R.U.F.F. is to promote animal welfare, to educate the public on spay/neuter, and to act as a safe haven for stray and sheltered animals until they can be transferred to other reputable rescue animal organizations for adoption. Basically, we are just a stopping point on a journey for the animals' new lives.
Why do we send out of state?
We send most of our animals to out of state non-profit, no kill, foster home based rescues where they will be fully vetted and be put up for adoption. These rescues have amazing success placing these dogs in responsible homes. By sending the dogs out of state, we can help more, and we all know there are plenty to help!
How are we funded?
We are funded strictly be the generous donations of the public. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization so all donations are tax-deductible. We receive no government assistance and none of our board members or volunteers or anyone associated with R.U.F.F. are compensated.

Meet the Board of Directors

I rescue:
Because it breaks my heart to see
- little puppies fighting each other for food
- dogs terrified of human touch
- dogs with no hair and with skin so brittle it cracks open when they move
Then through the magic of rescuing, I get to see:
- puppies who run to you for an ear scratch first because they know there will always be food
- a terrified dog crawl into your lap for love
- the first few tufts of soft new hair appear on skin that is healing

Dr. Martin Roberts is the veterinarian at Jasper Vet Clinic. He attended Auburn University for his undergraduate work. He attended vet school in Dublin, Ireland. He joined the RUFF team after returning home and seeing the amount of stray animals in need. Here he is pictured with his wife, Sarah O'Mary Roberts, RUFF rescue dog, Rugby and honorary RUFF member, Townsend. Sarah is a huge RUFF supporter who helps us out with our graphic design among other fundraisers!
